Putting Off That Oil Change? Bad or Old Motor Oil Can Fry Your Engine

Where to change car engine oil

Not changing your oil, or using the wrong oil, can mean buying a new engine. Engines are not cheap. Save thousands of dollars by changing your oil regularly, and using high quality oil to do it. How?

Start Small

If you do not know too much about cars and changing your oil, calm down. Give yourself a break, and start small. Answers to questions like, “What is the best motor oil?” and “When should i change my oil?” stem from an understanding of the basics. What should you know? Most motor oil is produced from petroleum-based compounds, but some kinds are also produced using other chemical compounds. Motor oil and regular oil changes help your car start, reduces friction, lubricates engine parts, prevents rust and corrosion build up, cools engine parts, keeps parts clean, and more.

Know Mechanic Tips and Tricks

People make a lot of mistakes when it comes to changing their oil. Do not count yourself among them. Avoid common mistakes, like misunderstanding suffixes. The average person thinks that the “W,” often accompanying 0, 5, 10, 5 and 25 grade viscosity oil, stands for weight. The “W” actually stands for winter, indicating that the oil is best for use in the winter and in extreme cold temperatures.

Another common slip up is using too much motor oil. Using too much makes motor oil foam, and it can cause troublesome variations in pressure. Getting your oil changed by professionals, at local engine oil change places, or using a dipstick can keep your oil at the right level, and your car running smoothly. Dipsticks allow mechanics and drivers to accurately determine the level, and amount, of oil in a vehicle.

Whether you are a beginner, or you have some car engine know how, getting your oil changed regular and making regular trips to engine oil change places, can keep you safe, and save you a lot of money. References.

  1. i think the gravity of the first paragraph is really needed. mechanic here and people show up after neglecting their oil for so long, just kind of wide eyed and hopeless and asking me what to do, and they don’t want to hear that they need to replace their engines

  2. if you do not know what you’re doing, especially with your engine at stake, you’re better off taking your car in for an oil change. oil changes are actually one of the most reasonable ‘fixes’ at repair shops, and a lot of them have online coupons
