Recent studies from the University of North Carolina have found that 7 in 10 managers believe their company’s meetings are inefficient and not productive, and that same number of employees admit to doing other things in meetings. Rather than scrapping your check-ins altogether, here are four steps you can take to make your meetings go more quickly and efficiently.

Stick to the allotted time.

This seems like common sense, but one member of a meeting can easily draw out what was supposed to be a thirty minute check-in and make it last for an hour or more. Meeting planners can mitigate this by putting together an agenda of points that need to be covered and providing a copy to all of the attendees. If your group seems to be stuck on one point or topic for too long, direct them back to the agenda and suggest setting aside another conversation to delve into it later.
